Walking to help raise funds for TSC
My goal is to walk 708 miles/1140 km in 120 days to raise awareness & funds for Tuberous Sclerosis
On the evening of November 5th 2024, our world as we knew it changed forever. Our perfect little 8 month old was laid in A&E with doctors running what felt like 100 tests. We were told they were going transfer him to ICU in another hospital (UZA) immediately because they believed he had multiple bleeds on his brain. That night passed in a blur of faces, conversations and blue lights, terrified of what was happening and also what was to come. Over the coming days, numerous doctors ran more tests and tried to reassure us. Thankfully, they confirmed he didn't have bleeding on his brain, however he instead was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). The “bleeds” which the doctors thought they had spotted, were actually benign tumours on his brain. These tumours were triggering seizures (epilepsy) which in turn caused damage to his brain.
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is such a crazy genetic condition that can affect numerous vital organs (lungs, heart, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes etc) in multiple degrees of severity causing Wyatts future to be uncertain.
Currently, Wyatt is a happy and super sweet close to 15 month old who is already facing developmental challenges caused by TSC. He has weekly physiotherapy appointments to help with neurological development and physical mobility and is a regular at the hospital for check-ups and follow-ups.
Because of Wyatts condition, I want to raise awareness for TSC and the impact it has on people that come into contact with it and raise some funds for be-TSC, a Belgian non-profit organization ran by volunteers who aim to support people affected by TSC through information, support and networking.
